Yeti Yonder Review – We picked up some of the new Yonder bottles from Yeti. Are they the best plastic water bottles you can buy?
The new Yeti Yonder is a durable and lightweight water bottle that has found a place in my hydration system. It is highly recommended for adventurers and enthusiasts alike.
Yeti Yonder Review – The Best Plastic Water Bottle
Yeti cut the weight from their water bottles with the Yonder Water Bottle. Replacing stainless steel with BPA-free plastic while keeping the familiar chug cap and carry handle. The Yeti Yonder is my new favorite water bottle.
Why Do I Need a Plastic Water Bottle?
My go-to water bottle as it was, was the stainless steel, insulated, 36 oz Rambler. Holding a full one liter of water, and with the ability to keep it cold all day, the Rambler is one of the best water bottles I’ve used.
We are a very active family, going on hikes and adventures regularly, so carrying the extra weight of a stainless steel insulated water bottle is questionable. I wanted to get a plastic option for my go bag and when a lightweight option was preferred. Enter the…
Yeti Yonder Plastic Water Bottle – Review
The Yonder is another top-of-the-line water bottle from the Yeti brand. Unlike the stainless steel vacuum-sealed Rambler product line, the Yonder is a non-insulated plastic water bottle and it does not keep water cold, focusing instead on reduced weight and durability. Like all other Yeti drinkware products, the yonder is designed in the USA and manufactured in China.
First Impressions
Lightweight and Durable
After opening the Yeti branded cardboard box and getting it in hand, The first thing I noticed is how much lighter the Yonder is compared to the Rambler, even so, the plastic has an extremely solid feeling with zero flexing and what has proven to be very durable. It would have to be, given that Yeti will warranty the Yonder for five years!
Two-Part Chug and Wide Opening Cap
Just like the Rambler, It has a two-part cap, with a chug spout and large opening for easy fill and cleaning. The Yonder cap, while similar, does not fit on the Rambler. The cap has a new design, hollowed out in portions to eliminate extra weight, making it feel lighter than the Rambler cap but almost just as solid.
Ergonomic Side Indentation
A flat area on the side of the bottle allows for ergonomic gripping of the bottle. Absent from the Yeti Yonder are level markers often found on plastic water bottles. No problem as I never use them anyway.
Available In Two Sizes – 1L/34oz and 750ML/25oz
The Yeti Yonder is available in two sizes. Both sizes hold a decent amount of water, but one adds more bulk to the bottle making it inconvenient for use as a go bottle. The smaller 750ML/25oz model fits in our vehicle cup holders and also fits in the side pockets of our daypack. The larger 1L/34oz model, however, will only fit in the oversized pockets of my hiking backpack. Having the top handle on the cap gives the option of clipping the bottle to the side via a carabiner. I personally don’t like this method as the heavy swing weight gets annoying pretty quickly.
How The Yeti Yonder Fits Into My Lifestyle
Because of this, I opt to take the smaller size as my go bottle when weight and size are a problem, I take my 36 oz Rambler as my primary daytime water bottle and keep the larger 1L Yonder bottle next to my bed, drinking the whole thing within 30 minutes of waking to ensure I am hydrated and prepared for the day.
We Tried The New Yeti Yonder And Loved It – Unboxing Video
Things I Like
- 100% Leak-Proof. No worries that the lid will pop open and dump the contents into my bag.
- Dishwasher Safe. Forget the bottle brush, just pop all the pieces into the dishwasher.
- Solid Top Handle. The top handle makes for convenient carrying and easy opening.
- Chug Spout. The classic chug spout for slamming back the H20. All chug, no glug!
Things I Don’t Like
- Cap pieces don’t have the same premium feel as the rambler chug cap.
- A bit expensive. It is expensive, but hopefully won’t need replacing for years to come.
