Waterproofing Your Clothing And Footwear. If you spend any time adventuring in rainy weather, you will know the importance of waterproof clothing. Coming back to your van drenched with water is no fun.
Waterproofing Your Clothing and Footwear
Over time even high-quality waterproof clothing can tend to lose its ability to shed water. Tending to soak up water Instead of repelling it.
Fortune has it, you don’t need to buy a new $500 Gore-Tex jacket to get a usable amount of water “repellency”. Is that the word?😂
Enter Atsko Silicone Water-Guard
Atsko Silicone Water-Guard is a spray-on waterproofing restoration aerosol. Renew waterproofing while maintaining breathability. Suitable for use on outerwear as well as footwear and others. Basically, if you want something to repel water simply spray it with Atsko Silicone Water-Guard, wait then watch rain, and water just bead right off. We also had success using it to waterproof some shoes over at The Sideways Movement.
Time to try this stuff out.
The Treatment – How To Waterproof Your Clothing and Footwear- Applying Atsko Silicone Water-Guard
The instructions are not very detailed, but it does say, not to operate the can in a horizontal or inverted position. After watching a couple of videos on YouTube we opted to lay the jacket flat on some scrap cardboard.
Then spray to get a good, even covering, flipped it over, and did the same on the other side. Next, I hung it on a coat hanger and left it to dry for 24 hours.
Waterproofing Clothing and Footwear With Atsko Silicone Water-Guard – Does It Work?
We are currently living through an abnormally wet Vancouver Islands winter, or is this normal 🤷♂️. All of this rain has proven that a lot of our ‘Waterproof” outerwear is not so waterproof. I can say, this stuff does work. The jacket that would previously soak up every raindrop now has the water bead right off.
