When going through the options we wanted for our Ram ProMaster there was no selection for remote start on the Ram Trucks website. luckily for us, our salesman advised us that it was an available option and asked us if we wanted it. Boy, are we glad he did! The remote start option is up there as one of my favorite options available for our Ram ProMaster.
Ram ProMaster Remote Start
Living in Calgary, the mornings are always cold, and when you are trying to get two kids out the door with minimal whining, remote start in our Ram ProMaster has been a godsend!
Ram ProMaster Remote Start – How To Use It – VIDEO
The key fob starter gives some basic instructions, the x2 on the button means two presses to start the van. While this seems straightforward, the button is a little stiff and often takes 3 presses.
Once the van has started via the remote start, the key fob’s rear door lock function is disabled. This can be a little annoying as you have to either remember to unlock the rear doors before starting the van or reach into the center console door lock button to unlock the rear doors.
When you are ready to drive, you just put the key in the ignition and turn it on. The engine will shut off if you touch the brake pedal before turning on the ignition. If you forget you started the van no problem because the remote start will timeout after ten minutes.
Distance Test
Throughout this past winter, I have used the remote start function countless times. The functional distance seems to be line-of-site. So basically if you can see the van, the remote start will work. I have tested this to what seemed about 100m.
To Summerise
Even though there are some quirks to get used to, we are pleased that we ordered the remote start as an option with our new Family Friendly Ram ProMaster Conversion. If you live in the Southern half of the continent then it may not be as valuable, but if you live in Canada or at elevation or the colder half of the states then definitely, GET IT!

So I have. A 2021 think I was duped salesman said it’s not available so I didn’t get it. I need to do it after market any suggestions?
Ben says
Hi Stephanie,
I believe the Mopar option can be installed after market. Otherwise I am not familiar with other options.

I am looking for a complete remote starter system for my 2019 ram 2500 pro master
Jim says
I just purchased a 2019 Promaster that came with this factory installed remote start system. This van was a dealer trade from one dealer to another and I believe one of the dealers lost the remote start key FOB. I was told that they could not get the remote start to work and said it disabled one of the vans entry keys so they gave me a credit for the remote system. I would like to know if anyone would know if I could purchase a replacement Mopar remote start FOB and if it would work on my new Promaster.
Steve Fourqurean says
Mine only came with one fob. I’d like to add a second one. The steps to sync additional remotes seem pretty easy reading the manual.
