Why Do We Need Echo Reduction?
We have this landing in our house that I want to turn into a music practice and jam area.
The plan is to clear out all this junk and mount our DIY acoustic panels on the walls.
How Can We Make (Sorta Good) Acoustic Sound Panels As Cheaply As Possible?
First things first, a moving blanket is by no means a replacement for engineered acoustic sound treatments, such as soundproofing blankets or acoustic panels. The sound improvements are noticeable.

The Cheapest Way To Make Sound Panel Frames?
We got some large picture frames from our local thrift store. You can’t build a frame cheaper than this, so these will work perfectly.
The construction of moving blankets from what I have read works well at absorbing echos. The extra thickness and the stitching help with reverb control,
While it will never be as good as expensive soundproofing panels. It is very cost-effective and will work for my current needs.
Low-Cost Sound Proofing
We found a massive moving blanket on sale at Princess Auto. At 80 by 144 inches, we have enough room to wrap eight frames of various sizes.
Removing The Wrinkles
Straight out of the package, it is very wrinkly and the outer fabric is very shiny. So to take off the shine as well as get rid of the wrinkles, I put it through a 40-minute wrinkle-away cycle in my dryer. It came out with almost no shine and way fewer wrinkles.
Wrapping The Frames
I cut the material using Milwaukee 9” Jobsite scissors. I cut leaving enough space to wrap around the frame. This allows room to staple the material in place.
The staple gun I am using is the Stanley Heavy Duty Staple Gun and it uses 3/8-inch Heavy Duty Staples. Stapling the corners was easy. There is a technique to it. But once I figured it out I could knock it out in less than a minute per corner.
Hanging The Sound Panels
To hang the frames I am using 3M Claw Drywall Picture Hangers. They come with spot markers, but I opted to just measure using a tape measure.
My Moving Blanket Sound Treatment Panels Are ✅
With a total of 8 frames of various sizes wrapped and hung. I am very pleased with how they turned out.
