Black Rhino Havasu Ram ProMaster. In this post, I go over the thoughts and processes involved in custom Powder Coating a set of Rhino Havasu Truck Wheels for installation on our Ram ProMaster Weekender Van Life Adventure Van Conversion.
Black Rhino Havasu Ram ProMaster
“A compatible wheel with stylings similar to the off-road racing world’s EVO Corse DakarZero! Heck yeah!”
Why We Need A New Set Of Black Rhino Havasu Truck Wheels For Our ProMaster
We wanted to put our Summer tires on a dedicated set of wheels… Do I need a better excuse to update the look of our Ram ProMaster with a set of Havasu Truck Rims by Black Rhino?
If you read our Ram ProMaster Winter Tires post, you know we run Nokian Hakkapeliitta CR3’s during the winter months and Yokohama Geolandar A/Ts in the summer. Rather than deal with the inconvenience of sharing one set of rims, we have decided to put the summers on a dedicated set.
Initial Inspiration – A Monster is Born
The black rim look is perfect for the dark months of winter. The summer needs to project different energy. Black Rims in the winter and White Rims in the summer. We wanted a Rally-Raid inspired look, ready for some serious cross-country adventures.
Turbomac White Rally Wheels
I have always liked that white wheels off-road race car look. Flat profile, rally-spec wheels just look fast. The white fifteen52 Turbomac wheels on Ken Block’s Ford Fiesta ST in Gymkhana SIX come to mind. In true Ken Block fashion, I had even contemplated contrasting one of the wheels in fluorescent green. I knew I wanted to mimic the look of these wheels. The question was how close and how?
Method 703’s – Something Worth Dreaming Of
The Method 703’s are such a nice looking wheel and would look great on our ProMaster. We had considered getting these in the bronze as the Method 703’s look great on anything!
When we noticed the Black Rhino Havasu was now available in a 16inch side to fit the Ram ProMaster we got excited! A compatible wheel with stylings similar to the off-road racing world’s EVO Corse DakarZero! Heck yeah!
Black Rhino Havasu Rims Powder Coated Sky White
While a quality automotive paint would have worked, and the finish would look good for a while. We wanted a long-lasting finish deserving of this sweet set of brand new Black Rhino Havasu Ram ProMaster rims. This and the fact that I am a sucker for a nice powder-coated finish made my decision easy. The flat profile with the sky white color will make these wheels pop.

TDot Performance Review…
We had a good experience with TDot Performance when purchasing the VanRug for our Campervan Flooring. Because of this, we decided to go with them when purchasing the Black Rhino Havasu Truck Wheels for our Ram ProMaster. As with before the transaction was easy. I emailed them to ask if they would match a competitor’s current sale price and they happily obliged. I had them delivered to on
Delivery Day 🚚 📦
At less than a week. Delivery was fast. Having just moved to live on an island, I have started to get used to things taking a long time to be delivered. It’s always exciting to come home and find a package on your doorstep.
Inspection and Test Fit
It’s hard to miss the bold letters warning you to test fit your wheels before mounting tires. We took their advice. I don’t like the idea of a phone call from the mechanic saying the wheels don’t fit.
Some things we found out during the Test Fit
- We had to remove the locator pins. The Black Rhino wheels are missing the locator hole and don’t fit otherwise.
- I had read of issues using the factory Lug Bolts. No need for new Lug Nuts as this was not a problem.
Powder Coating – Sky White
For the color, we decided to go with Sky White. I used this same color when powder coating the rails of my Onewheel. This color still looks good even when it is dirty and scratched up. Perfect for rims!
Changing The Stock Lug Bolts
Lug Bolts. I was under the impression that the stock Lug Bolts would not fit in the holes. This was not the case. I don’t know if Black Rhino had adjusted the hole size to solve this issue or what? But I had no problem using the stock ProMaster Lug Bolts other than the fact they don’t quite match the finish of the fresh new wheels.
Tires and Install
Getting the wheels fitted was obviously the most rewarding part of this project. Although I did get a call from the mechanic saying they don’t fit. After explaining the locator pin solution, they finished the job without any other obstacles.
Ram ProMaster with Custom Color Sky White, Black Rhino Havasu Truck Wheels ✅
The project is finished and I am stoked with the look. It’s true that with brake dust and road grime the clean white look doesn’t last long. That’s okay though, it means the van is getting used.

You may want to look into the lug bolt situation. I have black rhino wheels on my van and had to get new lugs. The lug seat is tapered on the stock wheel and a radius (or ball) seat on the black rhino’s. might be worth double checking the lugs. I was able to get new chrome lug bolts for $5/ea.
Yes, some Black Rhino Wheels use a Radius Lug. Anyone installing aftermarket wheels should check and use the correct Lug for their situation.
The Black Rhino wheels we have, use the tapered stock lug bolt with only one minor issue (noted in the post).
I even attempted to purchase new Lug Bolts at my local Wheel and Tire store, and they confirmed it was not needed.
Cheers!
This is awesome!
