We picked up an imitation Yeti Roadie 20 Cooler to use for day trips and short van adventures.
Physically identical to the original Yeti and offering seemingly similar ice retention. Small enough to fit in a small vehicle while still leaving room for other cargo. It has become our go-to cooler for summer days at the lake and for picnics with friends.
Keep reading to find out why we are excited to have found this replica of the now-discontinued Yeti Roadie 20.
Imitation Yeti Roadie 20 Cooler Review
Our Imitation Yeti Roadie 20 has turned out to be worth the investment. I’m not sure why it was discontinued by Yeti, but our knockoff version works well. The 20-liter size is small, but big enough to fit food and drink for a quick outing or to use as an additional cooler. It has good insulation to keep frozen meals frozen for extended travels. It is perfect as a supplement for our small Van refrigerator.
Choosing The Best Compact Cooler To Suit Our Needs
Things We Looked For In A Compact Cooler
-
Strong
Durability has to be one of the most important features. Everyone remembers that cooler with the sunken lid from the heavy sitter. Or the broken handles and cracked corners. We need to be able to sit and stand on our cooler.
-
Affordable
The Yeti-branded coolers are expensive. Not unjustifiable, but not something I wanted to pour funds into right now. We wanted to find a roto-molded cooler for a reasonable price.
-
Multi-Day Ice Retention
This goes without saying. A cooler has to keep ice for a long time or what’s the point. We needed our new cooler to have multi-day ice retention.
Guess what we found at our local Superstore?
PC 20-liter Roto-Molded Cooler
“High-performance cooler with rugged construction and extra thick walls for superior insulation. Cooler’s features include anti-skid feet, valve for easy draining, tie-down slots for easy mounting and heavy-duty rubber T-latches.”
Product Details
- Roto-Molded Construction
- Anti Skid Feet

Things I Like About our PC 20-Litre Roto-Molded Cooler
-
Visually Identical To Yeti
The PC cooler is almost identical and the next best cooler to the now discontinued 20-litre Yeti Roadie. If this cooler didn’t have the PC logo, it could easily be mistaken for a Yeti.
-
Durable Construction
The strong rotomolded construction and multi-day ice retention make it better than many other coolers in the same price range. This cooler will last for a lifetime.
-
Tie Down Points
It has tie-down points molded into the sides to allow for straps to be used to hold it in place.
-
Drainage Hole
The convenient drainage hole makes it easy to drain water from the cooler. No need for awkward tipping.
Things I Don’t Like
-
Heavy
The thick plastic walls and thick insulation make the cooler very heavy, almost too heavy if you plan on carrying it for long distances.
-
Too Small For Multi-Day Use
The small container size, 20L, is not very big, While good for day trips and short excursions, this is not the cooler you want if you’re needing to keep food and drink for a multiple-day trip. It works well as a supplement but not as the primary cooler.
Is an Imitation Yeti Roadie 20 Cooler Good For Vanlife?
Our Imitation Yeti Roadie 20 has turned out to be worth the investment. I’m not sure why it was discontinued by Yet but our knockoff version works well. The 20-liter size is small, but big enough to fit food and drink for a quick outing or additional cooler. It has good insulation to keep frozen meals frozen for extended travels. It is perfect as a supplement for our small Van refrigerator.
Where To Buy
We found ours in Canada at our local Real Canadian Superstore. It was the height of summer at the time and I hadn’t seen them before or since. You never know, maybe they will have them again.
