What Are Packing Cubes And How Do They Work?
Packing Cubes are small fabric zipper bags. They come in many different shapes and sizes and are designed to help sort and organize your packed items. We use the Amazon Basics brand, they come in a variety of sizes, are well made, and are priced affordably.
Are Packing Cubes Actually Helpful?
In most cases, Packing Cubes are extremely helpful. They keep things organized and make accessing your goods easier. When used for packing a camper van, packing cubes are an invaluable tool for organization and storage.
How Many Packing Cubes Do I Need?
This varies depending on the number of travelers you have in your van. In total, we have twelve pieces, in assorted sizes. I would say for van use a mixed 4 pack along with a 4 pack of medium size is a good place to start.
How We Use Packing Cubes
We don’t use our packing cubes in a conventional way for organizing packed goods inside a larger luggage bag. Instead, we use packing cubes as “Go Bags” for different activities. We have them packed and ready to save time when we are trying to leave. For example, each of our kids has one packing cube filled with things to take swimming, a towel, swim trunks, goggles, and change room slippers. Another is packed with a full change of clothes. In the van, we use XL-size cubes to hold our wool blankets. We also use one to store cold-weather accessories such as gloves, hats, and neck warmers.
