Ram ProMaster Winter Tire Review. The Nokian Hakkapeliitta CR3 is an amazing winter tire and is the perfect choice for winter adventures in your Ram ProMaster Van or any adventure van for that matter. They plow through deep snow and slush, grip on slick ice as well as having super-low rolling resistance.

After driving our ProMaster through two long Calgary winters, we have nothing but good things to say in this review of the Nokian Hakkapalita CR3 Winter Tire.

Past Experience

We have had a very good experience with Nokian tires, so much so, that this will be our third set of Hakkapalita model winter tires. The other two vehicles were small SUVs with …… generation Hakkapalita tires(studded and non-studded). I can tell you, with our past experience in mind that these new Hakkapalita CR3 tires are AMAZING!

Two Long Canadian Winters

Time flies when you’re having fun, and we are having a blast adventuring with our Ram ProMaster Weekender Van. We have done two full winters worth of driving in our van equipped with Nokian Hakkapalita CR3’s, more than enough ice time to put these amazing winter tires through their paces.

Studded VS Non-Studded

The winters here in Calgary can be harsh, so having good “Winter” tires on your vehicle is a must. Many people purchase studded winter tires thinking they will get the best solution for their winter driving experience. Unfortunately, studded tires are often not the best choice and a non-studded version may be better suited for a wider range of conditions. Your location and seasonal conditions should factor into your decision whether to get studded or non-studded tires. Price

Regardless of the season, one thing you should get when choosing tires for your conversion van is the LT rating. They are designed to endure the rigors of commercial use and depending on your location, you may actually be legally required to use them. The LT rating quickly drives the price up making the Nokian CR3 one of the more pricy options for winter tires on your Ram Promaster. I have to say though, “you get what you pay for!

Performance

Being designed for use on commercial trucks and delivery vans means the Nokian Hakkapeliitta CR3’s have all the characteristics you need to keep you safe when driving your conversion van on treacherous winter roads.

They hold traction well on packed snow and ice, so much so, when using cautious winter driving technique, I rarely noticed any type of skidding or slipping getting a start at those ice rink intersections or slowing down for stop signs. Adding to that, the diamond-tough grip gives plenty of traction to get up on ramps and inclines with ease!
