Mounting Robe Hooks To Our Van UniStrut Rails

February 20, 2020 by Ben Leave a Comment

Mounting Robe Hooks To Our Van UniStrut Rails. Adding a track rail system into your van conversion opens up more possible mounting options. You can mount brackets and wall hangings or use them to secure your cabinetry. Keep reading to see how we go about mounting some low-cost Robe Hooks To Our Van UniStrut Rails.Mounting Robe Hooks To Our Van UniStrut Rails

Mounting Robe Hooks To Our Van UniStrut Rails – The Why

Why We Are Using UniStrut Instead Of A Track Style Tie Down Systems

We really wanted to use an aluminum track style tie-down system throughout the van, but after some preliminary planning, chose not to, and instead decided UniStrut would be the solution to our Tie Down System challenges.

  • The first reason we chose to use UniStrut Strut Channel instead of a Tie Down Track System was to avoid having to drill so many holes.
  • The second was cost, the lowest price I could find L-Track for was $10 per foot.

Now we did factor in weight as an issue, but because our van is very minimalist, we won’t be anywhere near the vans payload limit.

Where We Got The Stainless Escutcheon Robe Hooks

I scored these Robe Hooks from our city maintenance surplus store. They sell off all sorts of odds and ends taken from all sorts of city services. You can find anything from tools to medical equipment, lighting, office furniture, you name it!  I suggest you check if your city or town has something similar.

Mounting Robe Hooks To Our Van UniStrut Rails – The How

Parts and Materials

  • Washroom Robe Hooks
  • ¼-20 x ¾” Machine Screws
  • ¼” Flat Washers
  • ¼” Drill Bit
  • Drill Driver

Step-1 Drill Out The Wall Mounting Plate

The Robe Hook Mount Plates come pre-drilled with holes for the supplied screws. Unfortunately, the holes are only 3/16”. To fit ¼” screws, we drilled the holes out a little larger.Mounting Robe Hooks To Our Van UniStrut Rails

#ProTip – The Mounting Plate is made of Stainless Steel. If you have to drill Stainless Steel, take it nice and slow so you don’t destroy your drill bit.

Step-2 Trim The Washers

To give the screws a little more surface area against the plate, we trimmed a small piece off a ¼” flat washer.Mounting Robe Hooks To Our Van UniStrut Rails

Step-3 Installation

Install is quick and easy. Screw the mounting plate into the channel nuts. These plastic flush fitting ”quick“ style channel nuts make the installation process quick and easy.Mounting Robe Hooks To Our Van UniStrut Rails

Step-4 Admiration

Stand back and admire the beauty of your creativity. Our UniStrut Strut Channel tie-down system is already showing its benefits. Mounting Robe Hooks To Our Van UniStrut Rails

Mounting Robe Hooks To Our Van UniStrut Rails – The Finish

You can never have too many hangers in a Van. Coats, bags, umbrellas, you name it… you will find something to hang on your hooks. We love how simple these were to install and how useful they are. They look great and are extremely functional! Wins all round!
